Delegate Maggie McIntosh

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am honored and pleased to be representing Maryland’s 43rd Legislative District with my Maryland General Assembly colleagues Delegate Curt Anderson, Delegate Anne Marie Doory, and Senator Joan Carter Conway.

I’m sure I needn’t remind you that we are living in exciting times for our country. With the election of Barack Obama and the return of the presidency to Democratic hands, we can look forward to a much-desired, much-needed, and long overdue restoration of both progressive substance and collaborative tenor to American governance. Obama has given us the opportunity to foster hopes and dreams that have languished for nearly a decade.

These hopes and dreams, however, become possible at a time in which we also face nearly unprecedented challenges. Due in no small part to the national recession, the fiscal situation in Maryland is very strained, hindering our ability to provide funds for many of the programs and services that would, in an ideal world, continue to improve and maintain the quality of life that all Marylanders deserve. It will be my priority to preserve the safety net for citizens, including public health programs and healthcare services; to protect public education by fighting deep cuts in University and K-12 funding; to provide assistance to those facing foreclosure; to eliminate the uneven distribution of justice by repealing the death penalty; and to work to continue a robust capital program – hopefully with help from the Federal Stimulus package – to concentrate on roads, transportation, infrastructure, and schools.

And I will continue to chair the Environmental matters Committee, where we will work closely with the O’Malley administration and House leadership to continue our efforts to clean up the Chesapeake Bay, preserve Program Open Space, and lay the groundwork for Smart Growth, so that the development in which we invest will serve the long-term goals of sustaining communities both healthy and humane.

Thank you again for your support, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Maggie
